We have listed two different deadlines for our next Portfolio Showcase call for Entries: Watery Landscapes. The correct deadline date is May 27.
The threatened showers held back and we welcomed new visitors and regulars to the gallery for the wonderful solo exhibitions by Thomas Holton, Edie Bresler with portfolios by Mary Beth Meehan and Eleonora Ronconi.
Several photographers we’ve had the pleasure of exhibiting have been selected for exhibition on FENCE 2015. The first Fence is up on on the Rose F. Kennedy Greenway Conservancy in Boston. Others will follow at Brooklyn Bridge Park and in Atlanta and Houston. Each photograph is 2 1/2 feet by 5 feet! Stroll along and see them all. Through April 19, 110 photographs representing a half century of Sylvia Plachy’s work are on view at Mai Mano House in Budapest. The images are arranged by “mood, visual connection and by a rhythm.” This is one of the wonderful things about any presentation by Plachy. She invites a new way of seeing photographs through a carefully crafted arrangement of images. We had the honor and pleasure of exhibiting photographs by Sylvia at the Davis Orton Gallery in 2010.
The weather turned warm(er), the wind quieted and Davis Orton Gallery was filled to capacity. A great reception with exhibitors Kay Kenny and Miska Draskoczy, and portfolios by Robin Michals and Mark Lyon. It was also the first gallery stroll BeLo3rd with 11 galleries participating.
Rose Marasco from “Tender Buttons”
ROAD TRIP-Not to be missed!! Congratulations to Rose Marasco. An exhibition of four decades of her work, “Rose Marasco: index” will open at the Portland Museum of Art, April 24 and run through December 6, 2015. The opening reception is Friday, April 24, 6pm.
As Chief Curator Jessica May says: “Rose Marasco is perhaps Maine’s most-prolific living photographer, having lived and photographed in Portland and its surrounding communities for more than 35 years. May 16 to June 21, the Davis Orton Gallery will present two solo exhibitions: Thomas Holton, The Lams of Ludlow Street and Edie Bresler, We Sold a Winner.
In conjunction with this exhibition, the gallery will present two portfolios selected through this call for entries,
Self-portraits, portraits, interiors, still lifes All processes and approaches to image construction welcomed.

Two portfolios will be selected for exhibition to accompany solo shows by Kay Kenny: Into the Night in the Middle of Nowhere (left) and Miska Draskoczy: Gowanus Wild (right) April 4 to May 10, 2015.
Karen Davis will be teaching a 5 week workshop, February 17 to March 17, Tuesday evenings at NYU School of Professional Studies, “Portfolio Development and Marketing for Fine Art Photographers. By the end of the class, photographers will have their bio, artist statement and portfolio in shape and a concrete plan of action for getting their work out. This is a great class for jump starting a current project whether you are an exhibiting artist or just beginning to show your work. Extensive resource lists are provided.
As many of you know, Karen has taught marketing, portfolio development, and word and image classes in the Boston area at the Griffin Museum of Photography, Lesley University, Tufts University, Suffolk University and Radcliffe Seminars. This is her first offering in New York.
