Stefanie Klavens’ work can be seen through Sunday in a group exhibition at StoneCrop Gallery in Neddick, Maine – “Love, Hate and Everything in Between.

Klavens, who exhibited at the Davis Orton Gallery in 2011, will be exhibiting in a three person show, “The Space in Between” with Daniel Feldman and Lynne Saville at Boston’s Photographic Resource Center (PRC) November 15- January 19, 2013. The exhibition features artwork that focuses on societal built environments in urban settings.

Mary Ellen Bartley has several pieces in a group show at the Bakersfield Museum of Art’s “Out of Print: Altered Books” exhibition featuring 10 contemporary artists who have deconstructed and reconfigured the book into something new.  Her exhibition at the Davis Orton Gallery continues through October 7.

Photographs from Shelby Lee Adams recent book, “salt & truth” (Candela 2011) will be exhibited at the Ogden Museum of Southern Art in New Orleans from October 6, 2012 to January 7, 2013. For more than thirty-five years, Shelby Lee Adams has been making powerful and honest photographs of the hollow dwellers of eastern Kentucky. These images described by Adams as “collaborations” come from mutual trust and respect between the photographer and his subjects.   Adams was born and raised in Hazard, Kentucky. His insider knowledge and connection to the people and culture of that region is reflected in his compassionate photographs that expose the depth and character of a disappearing lifestyle.

Karen Davis, co-director of the Davis Orton Gallery will be offering “Portfolios & Projects”  a unique portfolio-building course for emerging to advanced photographers, modeled on the popular Photography Atelier, a course she has taught for over ten years in the Boston area (presently at the Griffin Museum of Photography.) In addition to guidance and support in the creation of a body of work, the class helps prepare artists to market, exhibit and present their work to industry professionals.  As with the Atelier, each workshop concludes with a website and exhibition. Karen will also be teaching a four session workshop, Self-Publishing Your Photobook.

Fifteen artists in the Photography Atelier, a course taught by Karen Davis at the Griffin Museum of Photography will exhibit work from their portfolios at the Griffin Museum, September 6 to September 23, 2012.  A Reception for the artists at the Griffin is Thursday, September 6 from 6:30 to 8:30.  Karen will be teaching a similar class in Hudson, “Projects and Portfolios.”

Photographs by Carla Shapiro and Karen Davis, Davis Orton Gallery co-director, will be exhibited at Cabane Studios Gallery in Phoenecia, NY from Saturday, September 15 to October 28. For those in the Boston area, John Chervinsky has a one person show at Ellen Miller Gallery starting Tuesday, Sept 4. The reception is Saturday, Sept 15.

John will be in residence the month of October at Light Work in Syracuse. During that time he’ll be working on handmade, handprinted, slipcased books of his series, Experiment in Perspective.  Leslie K. Brown and others will contribute essays.  John exhibited photographs from that series at the Davis Orton Gallery in 2010.

AND, for those of you in New York City and Hudson River Valley region, he’ll be exhibiting work from his new series, Studio Physics, in a two person show with John Cyr at the Davis Orton Gallery from October 12 to November 11; Reception, October 20. A retrospective of photographs by Stephen Strom will open at Verve Gallery in Santa Fe NM on October 19, 2012 through January 19, 2013. With a total of 65 images spanning 35 years, this should be a thoroughly absorbing show. A catalog will be ebook forthcoming.

See Richard Edelman’s Liminal Portraits at Ward Fleming’s Pinscreen Studio in Palenville, Friday, September 7 from 6-9pm. The event, which is co-sponsored by the Davis Orton Gallery will include some of the images exhibited at the gallery in April and more.   In addition to Edelman’s large format prints, there will be a performance at 7pm.  All this occurs in and around the yurt housing Fleming’s amazing Pinscreen.
