Davis Orton Gallery’s, Mark Orton, donned beard (mega beard) and costume to the delight of many dozens of kids at the BeLo3rd tent at Hudson’s 15th Annual Winter Walk (organized by the Hudson Opera House). Karen Davis ladled Vico Restaurant’s eggnog in the gallery in the Eggnog Challenge BeLo3rd. Hudson resident Rachel Samuels sports a frothy mustach after sampling. (“Got Eggnog?”). Santa returned to the gallery in beard so as not to break the spell of believers.
Winter Walk, organized by the Hudson Opera House, comes to Hudson Saturday December 3, 2011 from 5 to 8 pm.
The Gallery currently has Photobooks!! 2011 on display. There are 20 self-published photography books ready for your perusal. Four have been chosen “Best of Show” and there are prints on display from each. These photobooks are original creations in very limited runs. The topics range from food, rock bands, remembrances of present, past and lost to modern Africa. The prices begin at $15. These will make a very original special gift for this holiday season.
This year we will again be hosting Vico Restaurant & Bar‘s entry in the BeLo3rd’s Eggnog Challenge. Make sure you visit all ten locations, taste every entry, and vote for your favorite.
The First Halloween Parade in Hudson, sponsored by COARC, Hudson Department of Youth and the Greenport Rescue Squad kicked off at 5:30 at 5th and headed down Warren Street to Promenade Hill Center where an all-ages Costume Contest was held. It was preceded by trick-or-treating by young and old in Warren Street shops that sported a Halloween-Whale logo (only in Hudson.) There was also a Haunted House for most and a “Pumpkin Patch” (less frightening) for the little ones!

Last night in Hudson NY, belo3rd and all of Warren Street was buzzing. Six galleries and the Opera House had receptions including the reception at Davis Orton Gallery for Sylvia Plachy. Sylvia’s friends, family and fans are legion and a substantial portion filled the Gallery and continued onto the sidewalk – all there to meet her and see her show, “Apparitions.”

Three photographs of John Lurie by Sylvia Plachy are in the online New Yorker blog, Photobooth, the view from the New Yorker Photo Department by Photo Editor, Whitney Johnson. Another Plachy portrait of Lurie accompanies Downtown Chronicles by Tad Friend in the August 16 edition of the New Yorker.

John Chervinsky, who will exhibit at the Davis Orton Gallery from August 26 to September 19, is in three major group exhibitions this summer: “In Review” at Gallery 339 in Philadelphia; “Seeing is Believing,” at the Concord Art Association, curated by Dana Salvo of the Clark Gallery and in “Found: Discoveries at FotoFest and PhotoNOLA” at John Cleary Gallery in Houston.
